Saint Stephen's Church

The Franciscan monks arrived in Veszprém in the second half of the 17th century and quickly built a church near the castle. The baroque-style church was completed in 1730 and dedicated to our first king, Saint Stephen.

The crypt of the church is the final resting place of Pál Ányos, a monk and poet who studied in Veszprém and died here in 1784. The church is directly connected to the Franciscan monastery, which housed the Saint Francis Old Priests' Home until 2021.

There are currently no regular masses.

During the Castle Project, which began in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2025, St. Stephen's Church can only be visited through guided tours.
