Saint George Chapel

The early chapel was built in the 10th century or around 1000, but we know for sure that the ruins we see today belong to the chapel rebuilt in the 13th century. Based on previous archaeological excavations, the visible ruins were built on the site of an existing rotunda. The chapel's significance lies in the tradition that Prince Saint Imre made his vow of chastity here. The chapel, closely associated with the cathedral, became an important pilgrimage site in the late Middle Ages, and even chapter meetings were held there. The chapel may have been destroyed before the 18th century, and at that time, additional structures were built upon its walls. However, its complete and authentic renewal could only be achieved through contemporary and clearly sacred restoration.

Renovation works are still ongoing in the building.
