The foundation stone of the church of the Franciscans, who settled in 1681, was laid in 1723, and the material from the demolished medieval parts of the cathedral was also used as construction material. In 1909, the church, along with the western buildings, burned down in a major fire, and its tower collapsed. It was rebuilt in 1912 in Neo-Romanesque style, along with the facade. The building was restored in 1938 and most recently in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gilded door of the sanctuary's tabernacle depicts the Supper at Emmaus. On the left side of the triumphal arch, next to the pulpit, stands an altar dedicated to Saint Francis, of Italian origin and transferred from the Franciscan Church and Monastery in Pest, while on the right side is an altar dedicated to Saint Anthony. The ceiling paintings were executed by Ferenc Xav\u00e9r Bucher between 1798 and 1801.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
