A The Veszprém Archbishopric has been involved in viticulture and winemaking since the 13th century.
Precisely in 1277, the then bishop, Péter Kőszegi (1275–1288), acquired
the estate in Mindszentkálla (Bishop's Hill). Currently, grapes are cultivated on 4 hectares of land here.
The soil of Mindszentkálla, part of the Balaton Uplands Wine Region, is diverse and varied, formed mainly on volcanic bedrock. As a result, white wines produced here (Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Italian Riesling) are characterized by a unique acidity, salty, mineral taste, fruitiness, and smoothness.
Red wines (Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Monastrell) are known for their exceptionally fruity character and rich spiciness in aroma.
In the early 20th century, the Archbishopric's vineyards expanded to include an area in Felsőörs, which has since been under continuous cultivation. Grape varieties in the Balatonfüred–Csopak Wine Region include (white) Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Italian Riesling, (red) Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Franc.
The wines are crafted in traditional methods in individual press houses on the estates, but also with the aid of the most advanced technical equipment. From the Felsőörs vineyards, there is a magnificent view, offering a vast panorama of Lake Balaton.
At the wine competition organized by the National Council of Vineyard Communities (Hegyközségek Nemzeti Tanácsa), the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2021 Italian Riesling received gold ratings in 2022. Products from the Veszprém Archdiocese Winery are also available in the castle.
