Walking down Vár Street in Veszprém, it’s hard to tell behind which gate the Middle Ages begin and where the Baroque era takes over. Those looking for guided tours and exhibitions in Veszprém can choose from two different itineraries. The “Journey Through a Thousand Years” and the “Walk of Light and Reverence” lead to different buildings, and the program can be continued with the exhibitions at the Biró–Giczey House. The “Light and Reverence” tour takes visitors through the halls of the Archbishop’s Palace and the Gizella Chapel. The ceiling of the palace’s ceremonial hall is adorned with a fresco by Johann Cimbal, and the salon still features furniture associated with royal visits. In addition to its medieval murals, the Gizella Chapel features a carved dragon figure that preserves the visual aesthetic of the early Gothic period.

The exhibition *Thistles and Lilies—The Flowers of Mary Magdalene*, on view at the house, won the Exhibition of the Year award in 2025. The exhibition links depictions of Mary Magdalene with the thoughts and example of Blessed Mary Magdalene Bódi. The thistle in the title is no coincidence: it is a rare symbol of Mary Magdalene.
One of the summer’s most popular activities is the scavenger hunt titled *The Secret of the True Path*, created for the exhibition. In addition to the visible images and objects, participants must also find marks that can be revealed using a UV lamp. Solving the puzzle requires attention, a little patience, and a keen eye, so families and groups of friends can play together.
The game costs 1,500 Ft, and with one set, up to four or five people can search for clues together. This means a group activity costs just 300–375 forints per person—an exceptionally affordable price for a museum game that gets an entire group moving.
